Echollective is a farming enterprise located 25 minutes from Iowa City, near Mechanicsville. We are a cluster of farmers, interns, and volunteers cultivating 14 acres with a wide array of vegetables and herbs, and sometimes fruit; we specialize in several heirloom hard-neck garlic varieties.
We also steward 20 forested acres including a creek and oak stands, which attract the likes of many animals: white-tailed deer, rabbits, coyotes, a feral black cat colony, and an amazing array of bird species, some of them quite rare. Echollective has also attracted a wide variety of people over these years, as both a farm and a community; amongst them birdwatchers, ecologists, herbalists, culinary-enthusiasts, rugged bicyclists, mushroom-farmers, federal biologists, travelers, lawyers, and folks from other countries, all of whom wish to come out and dig their hands into the soil. The farm's primary farmers and workers live and work on the farm, and are open to folks coming out to help or volunteer.
We’ve been farming for 12 years, always using organic and sustainable practices. We use crop rotation techniques to let the earth rest and replenish itself whilst using cover crops in between seasons and plantings to heal and provide the best soil health for our vegetables. We are not USDA Certified Organic but we strive to fulfill those principles nonetheless...and in fact, we work hard to surpass them in many ways. We like to think we are "Beyond Organic."
We distribute our produce to New Pioneer Co-ops, Iowa City’s finest restaurants, and direct to consumers at the downtown Iowa City Farmers Market. In Cedar Rapids we are featured at the bi-monthly Downtown Farmer's Market and Cedar Rapids New Bo Market. Our produce can also be purchased directly online and picked up through the Iowa Valley Food Co-op.
We also have a CSA! Join us for our next season by clicking CSA Sign-up on the above tabs.
